Our Church

"The Church Where Everybody Is Somebody" is not just a statement but it is the embodiment  and essence of the love that Christ has shown to all of us.  We truly believe that every individual is an important and integral part of the body of Christ.

Statement of Beliefs

" We affirm the Holy Bible as the inspired Word of God and the basis of our beliefs.  This church subscribes to the doctrinal statement of  'The Articles of Faith' as adopted by the National Baptist Convention.  We voluntarily band ourselves together as a body of baptized believers in Jesus Christ personally committed to sharing the good news of salvation to lost mankind.  The ordinances of the church are 1) believer's baptism, and 2) the Lord's Supper.

Church History

Mt. Pleasant M.B. Church was founded June 12, 1911 by the Rev. T. J. Haywood. It was located on the far side of the levee at Sans Souci, several miles south of Osceola, AR. It was later moved to Sans Souci Road where it remained until it burned down on April 14, 1977. The purchase of a lot on O. T. Williams Drive in the city of Osceola, was the start of a new era for Mt. Pleasant Church. While holding services at the Pilgrim Rest M. B. Church, then later Bethlehem M.B. Church, both in Osceola, the members started making plans for a new church building. Another pastor, the Rev. J. S. McConicka was selected to replace Rev. A. J. Jones who had been pastor for sixteen years. It was under Rev. Jones that the dream of a new church was born. The spring of 1979 brought the conception of physical plans for a new worship place and a goal was set for September of that same year. A larger lot was purchased and the former sold. The new lot was located at 619 South Broadway, our present day location. By the grace of God, the prayers of the righteous, and an anointed leader--Rev. McConicka--New Mt. Pleasant M. B. Church became a reality. The first Sunday in March of 1980, the birth of our present day church was celebrated with a march from Bethlehem M. B. Church at 108 W. Bard where we had been having services, to our new home here on Broadway.  After six years of labor with us here, God saw fit to call Rev. McConicka home in November of 1985. Following his leadership was Bro. Ronald Williams, Bro. Raymond Bledsoe, Bro. Robert Overton, Jr. whom we lost to death in October of 2002 after almost 15 years of service.  It was under his leadership that a call to rebuild had begun. Bro. Marcel Davis followed, who was with us just two and a half years. All of these men brought in a new era of leadership. With them came fresh ideas, wisdom, knowledge, and visions--visions unparalleled to any, heretofore witnessed by those of us who are still here. The vision of New Mt. Pleasant is one that we believe our present pastor, Bishop Gregory Lynn Brown is fully capable of carrying out. His vision for the New Mt. Pleasant Church is Making Disciples, Empowering Disciples and Making Evangelists of Disciples. Bishop Brown and his family, his wife Charlotte and son, Gregory Alonzo, came to us in May of 2005. Yes, today we celebrate a number of years, but we also celebrate a legacy.  We celebrate the dedication and the sacrifices that have been made for the cause of Christ and for this fellowship, namely, the dedication of our new 10.000 square foot Worship Center located at 522 South Broadway. This edifice is adequately equipped with a 250-seat sanctuary, a 160 seat Fellowship Hall and lavish kitchen, state of the art sound and video room, utility room, three large classrooms, a conference room and finance offiice, administration office, First Lady’s office, Bishop’s quarters, and five restrooms. We celebrate 99 years of labor for this family--the New Mt. Pleasant Church family.
